My Thoughts - @Tampa Bay (L 4-3) 10/27/10

-There were an awful lot of negatives in this game.

-This was the worst refereed game I’ve seen in a long time. Both sides should be upset with the way it was ref-ed. The refs made some bad calls on the Pens in the beginning, then they gave the Pens some questionable make up calls; they made themselves known tonight and not in a good way.

-The Pens came out blazing in the first, but got called on a stupid penalty. Then, Craig Adams and the PK showed up. Two shorties was definitely a nice start.

-Fleury has got to stop giving up the first goal on the first shot of the game. He bailed the Pens out with a few very nice saves, but he’s got to stop those first two goals. He just doesn’t look relaxed out there. Something’s not right.

-Malkin tried to get going, but he just couldn’t. He hasn’t been all that so far good this season. At least, he hasn’t been consistently good. I want to say that playing the wing is making him less effective, but there’s times where he looks great, then times (like tonight) where he’s invisible. Like Fleury, he’s got to play better.

-Sidney played pretty well tonight. He had a very nice quick up pass to Adams on the Duper goal. He was also flying in the first two periods but was gassed in the 3rd because he had nearly 20 minutes of ice time by the end of the second. DB has to manage the number of shifts Sid takes better.

-Speaking of Dan Bylsma, he had the lines all jumbled up all night. I realize that we were on the PK a lot, but DB’s got to be more consistent with the lines he puts out there. I don’t think Geno or Sid had consistent linemates all night long. That’s pretty unacceptable in my book.

-The whole team was sloppy in the 3rd…they just had no energy out there. The defense especially.

-For not having a goal and having a few bad giveaways, the PP looked pretty good tonight.

-Even though he had 3 assists, I didn’t notice Stamkos out there at all tonight.

-On the other hand, St. Louis was absolutely fantastic out there.

-Letestu, once again, had a solid effort tonight.

-Asham was just ok. I feel like the Pens tried to force him into the game by putting him on Sid’s line more than a just a few times. It’ll take time for him to get going, so I’m not too worried.

-What’s up with Steigy speculating that Staal will be back next game? The Pens have said that they aren’t rushing him and that it should be a while before he comes back, so I those comments came out of nowhere. Although, I wouldn’t complain in the slightest if Staal decided to make an appearance Friday =]

-Was Comrie scratched tonight? He sure looks like he’s trying to play his way off this team.

-On final thought: Pardon my French, but holy shit Adams!
