My Thoughts - @ Nashville (W 4-3 OT) 10/21/10

-What a freakin’ game. Nashville played well, but the Pens just simply out worked them.

-Rinne was awesome in this game. If it weren’t for him, we’d be talking about the scoring spree the Pens went on in the 3rd.

-Before I get to the two headed monster, Flower was excellent in this game. He had no shot on any of the goals scored. I will say this, though. He seemed a little too aggressive early on but settled down by the second. He made a few clutch saves in the OT. Easily his best performance of the season…LOL

-Sidney Freakin’ Crosby. Best player in this game from start to finish. He took a stupid penalty and didn’t finish above 50% in the faceoff circle, but do you want me to nitpick? I mean, this guy is just doing everything right now. His puck possession is other worldly, his play in his own zone is phenomenal, he’s being much more physical, he’s flying down the ice, and when you put him with Geno…well, he just can’t be stopped. Oh, by the way, I believe he’s now first in the league in points and second in goals?

-You know what? Geno was just kind of putt putting along, even after his goal, until he blew up Tootoo. That, combined with being put with Sid, woke up the beast. He was just fantastic after that. Flying up the ice, keeping up with Sid, crisp passes. And that assist? Wow. A little luck, but you have to be lucky to be good. I don’t like that he takes uber long shifts, but that one shift in OT was epic.

-Didn’t notice Dupuis in this game until he made that “save.” Probably the play of the game right there.

-This game was really physical. Did you guys notice that when the refs put the whistle away in the 3rd, that the Preds started to take little shots at the end of plays? Yeah, I noticed that because they couldn’t keep the Pens out of Rinne’s crease.

- You’ve got to give a lot of credit to the Pens, though. They were sloppy early on, then they outworked the Preds in the 2nd, only to absolutely dominate in the 3rd.

-The 4th line was great tonight. Stick tap to those three.

-Engelland was really sloppy in his own zone tonight. I counted 3 giveaways in the first period alone. However, he did make some nice plays and won that fight in the second.

-Letestu was kind of quiet tonight, but made the plays every NHL player plays. He’s here to stay, folks.

-What a shot by Letang. Wow.

-What a freakin’ game. It had everything. Physicality. Superstars. Great goaltending.

-Wouldn’t be surprised to see it end up being one of the games of the year when all is said and done.
