Note: Alighieri from Pensburgh did the game notes on this night because I couldn't watch the game.
Brent was really on the money today. No one can fault him or the D for the two goals we got against us & he kept us in it with plenty of big saves.
Score shouldn't have been so tight. The officiating was dodgy beyond belief. A bad call on Letang which should have never thrown him out. That and a non-call on Talbot meant that our PK was caught playing an extended shift. Both goals came from a tired PK unit.
That penalty's a huge shame. Letang was playing really well. He's not afraid of taking big shots, he's getting Free Candy-esque on D.
Blake Comreau is becoming one of those players I want to meet in a dark alley in the middle of the night. He clearly embellished the hit & waddled on the ice for a long time to sell it. Then he came out on the next shift and notched an assist. Nuff said.
I love LeTestu's aggressiveness on the forecheck. He's really making things happen for us. That Tangradi goal was only because of him.
I'm loving both Rupp & Tangradi's goals. It shows a willingness to get dirty along the boards & behind the net. If we can stay this gritty, good things will happen.
Goligoski's really impressing me on defense. We all don't expect him to be great defensively but his performance on the PK really shows us that he's capable of great things on that end of the ice.
Hutchinson & Lovejoy are looking good. Lovejoy's continuing the good work from against the Leafs. He was caught out with a lazy pass in the second, but he showed great speed to rush back and cover the odd man. Hutch looks like money offensively. He's a very good call up.
Crosby's really starting to piss me off a bit here. Until a great wrister just outside the left FO circle in the third, he pretty much went AWOL for a lot of the first and most of the second.
Geno started out sloppy & seemed sluggish at times. I think he's just out of his funk. He recovered a little after the first period & our second line is looking like one of our best lines.
I never want to see Godard on the ice again. That fight in the first was pretty pointless and he didn't knock anyone's socks off. That & when we have guys like Engelland & Rupp who can do stuff other than fight… It seems like a bit of a waste.
