My Thoughts - @ Anaheim (L 3-2) 11/5/10

-The Pens played well for about 55 minutes of this game; hit two post and missed about 4 point blank chances. The other 5 minutes, they just let go and let the Ducks take over to score two goals. The Pens deserved to win this game. Sometimes, when a team is in a funk, you have games like this where you play well but don’t win.
-With the effort the Pens gave tonight, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a lackluster showing in Phoenix tomorrow night. They might just not have enough energy since they gave everything they had in the third period there.
-Hiller was very good tonight. Besides the squeaker he let in on the second Sid goal, he stopped every shot he saw.
-Fleury gave up one or two horrid rebounds, one of which cost his team a goal. Tonight, however, he gave his team a chance to win in the third which is something he hasn’t been doing all this year. Baby steps.
-The Captain was the Captain tonight. He tried to lead his team back, but the breaks didn’t go their way. He really played “vintage” Sidney Crosby hockey tonight. Went to the front of the net, got a redirection, and a dirty goal as well.
-I really don’t know what to say about Malkin anymore. He took a shift tonight that really cost his team. Malkin took a shift that lasted 1:32, getting off the ice with 1:59 left in the game.  He had ample opportunity to get off the ice on that shift – I watched it again. He has to get back on the ice just 31 seconds later, after MAF was pulled, and looked dog tired. Malkin’s just not playing smart hockey right now.  Go 4 out of 5 games without a point all you want, but when you mix that with stupid hockey, that’s when it pisses me off.
-Dupuis was all over the puck tonight. If anyone ever asks why he’s on the first line, I’m going to ask them to watch this game.
-Our D just looked putrid for those 5 minutes that I referenced earlier, but man did they move the puck well in that third period.
-Call me crazy, but doesn’t Letang look like the very early Norris Trophy winner? The kid just looks so good right now. It’s great when you’re healthy and playing well, but it really shows something when you’re injured and playing well. Of course, he has some defensive lapses at times, but he’s just really improved his overall game this year.
-Comrie has got to start burying some of those chances he’s getting. He should’ve had two goals tonight.
-It’s rare to lose and not have many complaints, but that’s what this loss was tonight. I thought we played great, but the Ducks just capitalized on the chances that they got. Their goaltender was great tonight as well.
