My Thoughts - @St. Louis (L 1-0 OT) 10/23/10

-What a game. This shouldn’t be a game where the Pens are upset by their effort. Besides a pretty sloppy 1st period, they played really really well. We got a point out of it; while I’m sure everyone wanted two, we sure as hell earned the first one.
-Halak was Halak tonight. The Habs made a mistake.
-Johnson was great tonight. He deserved much better. He was really upset with himself after he gave up the goal in OT – he shouldn’t have been; he kept his team in this game.
-Crosby and Malkin were just ok tonight. But you’ve got to give the Blues a lot of credit for that. They played Crosby and Malkin so tightly. If the Blues wouldn’t of played that well you just know that the monster would’ve been at it again.
-Speaking of the monster, the fact  that Crosby got thrown out of the faceoff circle in OT when Malkin jumped too early gave the Blues the faceoff win and the game. In no way is it Geno’s fault that we lost, but when you trade a career 40% guy for a (this season) nearly 60% guy, it doesn’t usually go to well. Just that minute change was the difference in this game.
-Orpik was ok tonight. He made some really “Orpik” like plays and his physicality was much appreciated, but he looked pretty rusty at times.
-Tangradi had a good game. He hasn’t looked that good since training camp.
-LeTestu was average.
-Cookie had a very nice game. So did Lovejoy.
-Dear Mike Comrie, we know you took a generous discount to come play here, but that doesn’t mean you should play like the Pens lowest paid player.
-After the PP had some good chances on their first few attempts, they were lackluster on their last few. Again, gotta give the Blues credit.
-Even though we lost, we shouldn’t be too disappointed. The Pens played really well, got a point, and gave an extra point up to a non-conference opponent. It’s all good.
-Unfortunately, the Pens will have 4 (5?) days to sit and think about this loss. Maybe that’s actually a blessing – this was a rough game physically.
-Finally, we have to congratulate the Blues tonight. They really did play well. They earned this win.
