My Thoughts - @ Phoenix (W! 4-3 SO) 11/6/10

-Wow what a game. The event started off so crappy (those of you in the game thread know how I felt about that…), but then an actual hockey game broke out. The Pens needed this win very badly and they got it.
-Before I get into anything else, I think the reason that DB pulled Flower was to get the team going NOT because he thought that Flower was playing badly. That was DB’s way of kicking the team in the ass and they responded.
-On the other hand, Beej was lights out tonight. What a valiant effort from a guy who didn’t even know he was starting. He made a few beautiful saves tonight.
-Sidney Crosby was the best player on the ice tonight. He refused to let his team lose. What did he work on over the summer? Leadership. You can just tell that now, more than ever, that the team really does follow him as their one leader. Told his team to wake the eff up in Dallas, tried mightily to mount a comeback in Anaheim and single handedly turned this game around with that goal to start of the second. And he didn’t take his foot off the gas after that until he greeted Test Tube after the shootout. He’s now second in points and looking like he did at the end of the regular season last year.
One other note: Sid’s going to win that leadership award this season. No, not that dumb “MarkMessierYou’reSecondAllTimeInPointsScoredSoYouGetAnAwardNamedAfterYou” thing, the actual NHL award that Doan won last year. Who came in second in voting behind Doan, you ask? Why, Sidney Patrick Crosby of course.
-Malkin? Wow. He was such a monster on the puck tonight. There’s such a huge difference in Geno when he really makes a conscious effort to play like one of the world class players that he has the potential to be. He really looked like he did in 08-09 tonight. It’s about time too. This team needs him to be Evgeni Freakin’ Malkin if they want to win the Cup again. Now, he had a game like this in Nashville then disappeared for a while after that. Let’s see if he can get going consistently.
-How about Mr. Calder…errm TestTube. Crosby? Stopped. Letang? No way. TestTube? Five hole city.  All the girls are going to want him to go there if he plays like he did tonight all the time.
-Kunitz had a very nice night tonight. All he had to do was feed the puck to Sid and let him go to work at even strength, but that a very nice shot on the PP for a sweet goal. Random thought: it pisses me off the Kuni’s parents spelled his name “Chris” instead of “Kris.” Ughhh how much fun would the name “Kris Kunitz” be to look at?
-Engelland? Wouldn’t be surprised to see him get scratched next game. He totally got burned on the first two goals and only got 6:23 of ice time. Yeah, here comes <3joy.
-After the disaster that was the first period our D was really fast and mobile. Wouldn’t be surprised to see them lead the league in points by a defenseman for the rest of the season.
-Asham probably had his best game of the season.  Martin looked slow out there, though.
-I said last night that I wouldn’t be surprised if the team had a lackluster showing following the effort they gave in Anaheim. Boy was I wrong. Sid and Geno will do that to you sometimes. Huge win. Big game against TT and Beantown on Wednesday.
-Had a great time in the game thread tonight!
